Puck and Milton invited the Marquette Sea Kayakers up toward Big Bay, north of Marquette, Michigan, to paddle from their rocky beach toward the Little Garlic River and Thoney's Point. Sam, myself, Puck, Milt, and their neighbor Michelle showed up to paddle on a beautiful, sunny morning. I hope that I got everyone's name correct this time!
The outing was almost cut short for Sam when he realized that he had forgotten to bring his wetsuit and thus, wouldn't be able to go (rules are rules). Fortunately, the neighbors loaned a shorty to Sam and he was good to go.
Paddling away from the Bates' beach. From the left, Michelle, Puck, Milt, and Sam.
Small sea cliffs, which would soon grow to large sea cliffs in about a half mile.
The larger sea cliffs. The dark spots on the cliff walls are caused by ground water seeping out of the cliff.
The cliffs end and Thoney's Point begins. That's Milt on the left and Sam on the right.
Approaching Thoney's Point. The water began to get a little rough in here, which was a nice change from the calm water we'd had almost the entire way up to this point.
One of our hosts, Puck, with Granot Loma in the distance.
Granot Loma is a fifty room lodge built by the Kaufman family, but now owned by a commodities trader from Chicago. Seeing Granot Loma was my goal for the day. It's nice when you can achieve a goal.
Heading back around Thoney's Point.

Sam and Puck come in for a landing.
Milt and Michelle landing back at Milt's house.
We started paddling around 10am and finished up about 12:30pm and ended up paddling just over five miles. Thanks to Puck and Milt for hosting a great outing!
